List of Canadian Barcode Producers

Part of getting your book into Amazon or anywhere for that matter if you are self-publishing is getting your ISBN and then a barcode to go with it. I’m in Canada and so I was google”ING” aroung for a “List of Canadian Barcode Producers” and came up with this in an email from a very helpful lady at ISSN Canada.

I will be phoning DYNAPRINT as my first try company in a couple of days when I get back from a little backpacking adventure across Mexico (other posts on that one). I’ll write a post about the service as it happens. Here is the info I recieved so far:

List of Canadian Barcode Producers

Many publishers print a barcode as well as an ISSN on issues of their serials. A barcode simplifies the processing of serials in libraries, and may therefore result in fewer claims, speedier shelving, and decreased costs for both libraries and publishers.
ISSN Canada recommends either the EAN or the SISAC (also called code 128) barcode because they also display the ISSN in conjunction with the barcode itself.

This is not a comprehensive list. We welcome information on other companies to include in this list. Library and Archives Canada is not responsible for the services provided by these companies. The inclusion of a company on this list does not constitute an endorsement or recommendation by Library and Archives Canada.

Selling Ebooks Through Amazon

I wanted to increase exposure of my new and shiny book FAT TO FIT and started the process by finding out how to widely distribute the ebook through sources other than the common clickbank. I looked into selling ebooks through amazon and here is the response they sent to start selling ebooks through them.

I will write another post on how I am getting along with trying to sell my softcover through them and if it is worth the time. Here is the email:

Thank you for your continued interest in Amazon.com’s eBooks program, and for sending in your info.

Amazon.com is selling eBooks through our wholly owned subsidiary, Mobipocket (http://www.mobipocket.com). Our support for the Mobipocket format is part of our commitment to provide the best eBook customer experience possible. We are working hard to integrate Mobipocket’s selection of eBooks onto the Amazon.com website in the future.

If you would like to sell your eBooks through our wholly owned subsidiary, Mobipocket, please follow these instructions:

1) Go to the Mobipocket publisher portal, eBookBase, to register your publisher account:

http://www.mobipocket.com/eBookBase/en/Homepage/apply.asp?Type=Publisher

You can review the agreement and register online using the above link. You will be notified via email of your account activation. After you receive notification, you can log into the Mobipocket publisher portal, eBookBase to start uploading and selling your eBooks.

2) eBooks sold through Mobipocket must be in Mobipocket format; to convert your eBook files to Mobipocket format, you can download Mobipocket Creator, Publisher Edition for free: http://www.mobipocket.com/en/DownloadSoft/ProductDetailsCreator.asp?edition=Publisher

3) Create your own Mobipocket eBook files using Mobipocket Creator, Publisher Edition

4) Upload your Mobipocket eBooks to eBookBase; you can upload directly from the Mobipocket Creator software, or you can upload using the eBookBase web interface:

http://www.mobipocket.com/eBookBase/en/Homepage/default.asp

5) That’s it! Once you upload your Mobipocket eBooks to eBookBase, they are immediately made available for sale on the Mobipocket Web Site (http://www.mobipocket.com). Other Mobipocket retailers are notified when we receive your eBooks, and can make them available for sale on their own sites. See the list of retailers who sell Mobipocket eBooks:

http://www.mobipocket.com/ebookbase/en/Homepage/partners.asp?Type=Retailer

If you encounter technical problems after you register with Mobipocket, please visit the Mobipocket Support Home Page http://www.mobipocket.com/forum/index.php and look for the appropriate FAQ help forum. We suggest that you post what problems you are having and request help from Mobipocket and a representative should answer as soon as possible.

The Amazon.com Digital Text Team will keep you informed of any changes to this process when we integrate Mobipocket’s eBook selection onto the Amazon.com website.

Thank you again for your interest and support of Amazon.com’s eBooks program.
