The 7 Day Secret To Getting Your Emails Opened

Now that we have the offer created we get to create the actual content of the emails we will be sending our new readers.

I’m a fan of 7-day e-courses because they are 7 short ‘articles’ that can be later turned into a book or product if deemed popular.

Day 1: This is your welcome email where you say hello and link to the first article of the course on your website.

Day 2-7: Reminder & follow up. Ask them if they got the first email and give them the link again. In the case of the 7 day course you would continue on with day 2.

Ask them if they have any questions about day 1. Keep doing this until you have completed the week.

Oh - and at the end of every email make sure to tell them something good is coming in the next email. Just like the old TV shows used to do.

Now, switch to twice a week. For the rest of the month your emails answer client questions you’ve received in the past or you tell personal stories where you used the methods you are teaching.

Lets take for example my “12 Weeks To Beach Ready” 7-day e-course. I include something like this in my follow-up emails:

“A few email back, you got one of my most important secrets — about about using side planks to increase your strength on the big compound movements for quicker muscle gains. Let me explain more about why that’s important, and tell you a short story about a friend of mine who didn’t follow my advice. . . ”

Then further down the letter, after your story, say . . .

“What you might not know is that your core isn’t the only place that sends signals to shut down on turn on strength. If you’re looking to get stronger so you can build muscle quicker, My “Basement Barbarian Muscle Manual ” ebook has a complete list of the 4 most common strength ‘off-switches’ in your body and how to turn them back on (page 16). Do you see how this builds on the content of the free e-course that you gave away? And how it turns that e-course into a tool for building sales of your main product?

After week 4 I like to switch to weekly emails for now. Not because of effectiveness but because coming up with daily emails at first is hard. You can do that later by making a long autoresponder series of things you have wrote.

The key to everything is the 7 Day Secret.

The 7 Day Secret

Here’s something I learned from Jim Edwards Back in 2004.

It’s important to get a message into your readers inbox on the 7 day after they subscribe.
Because there is a high chance your reader is at the computer thinking about your topic on that day of the week. Day 7, 14, 21 all fall on the same day of the week as day 0. That’s the day your reader opted into your list.

Here’s why that’s important.

Looking at my fitness list for example – Maybe my new reader plans out their weekly workouts on Sundays. So one day while doing this they were on the internet looking for workout ideas and signed up for my list. There’s a pretty good chance that next Sunday, they’ll be looking again and there I am in a message for them.

Just like magic.

If you liked that…

I’ve also created a free 7-day e-course called: How To Write Emails That Sell

Because there are three parts to BUILDING your email list AND 4 parts to writing emails that SELL.
